We have moved into the age of the quantum. Technologies are being developed based on quantum mechanics that are proven to work, and work well. Quantum dots are being made, highly efficient solar panels are expected due to this technology.
But quantum mechanics has a skeleton in it’s closet. An enigma. A paradox seemingly unexplainable.
I am currently reading this book.
One of the authors Fred Kuttner, has been kind enough to exchange emails with me, trying to help me understand it. I am no physicist, I have never been to college other than to visit someone. But my mind works differently, and I had an idea I thought I’d post here just for the fun of it.
There are experiments in this book that are used to describe the enigma. One that gave me this idea, was the atom in a box pair.
My thoughts are that the wave is the transmission medium the particle “rides on”. That’s why you achieve seemingly opposing results dependent on the experiment.
The double slit aspect in my mind shows the wave like nature of the medium, carrying the particles into the deflection screen.
We see both particle and wave in the experiments because they are both there. One is the transmitted particle, the other the transmission medium.
Consider a forked river. If you observe a several canoes drifting down the river, some take the left fork, others take the right, you wouldn’t consider the canoes to exist in both places at once, you would quiet easily understand the water carried them.
It’s the same basic concept at the quantum level. Newton is still right, more or less, and god still doesn’t play dice.
